How do we lead when our systems are falling apart?
Navigating chaos with vision, courage, and collective resilience
"Climate change will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live—until you’re the one filming it." (Unknown)
From deadly floods in Seville to wildfires in Los Angeles and the devastating droughts in East Africa, the climate crisis is no longer a distant threat—it’s here, now. Scientists have confirmed that 2024 will be the first year to surpass the symbolic 1.5°C warming threshold. Simultaneously, the systems designed to protect and support us—insurance, public infrastructure, and global accountability mechanisms—are crumbling under the weight of this new reality. Read on.
No amount of private wealth can fully shield us from the climate crisis
The scale of destruction caused by the LA wildfires is staggering. Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu have been reduced to ashes. Those without insurance have lost everything, while those with coverage are discovering that insurers can no longer absorb the escalating costs of climate-related catastrophes.
In one of the wealthiest cities in the richest country on Earth, thousands are now homeless because of these wildfires. The uncomfortable truth? No amount of private wealth can fully shield us from the consequences of the climate crisis.

My heart goes out to all the families and friends affected 🙏🏽 While I feel helpless from a distance, I’d like to extend this platform to anyone in need of support. If you or someone you know requires assistance, please feel free to reach out, and I’ll include your request in this newsletter.
Leading the next Paradigm Shift: from Inner Transformation to Collective Action
In 2011, while at Singularity University, I witnessed the convergence of transformative technologies—AI, robotics, IoT, genetics, and mobile computing—all reshaping our health systems and societies in profound ways. Today, I feel a similar clarity, but this time it’s about the urgent need for A New Kind of Leadership to navigate the immense challenges ahead.
After a lifetime of global learning and transformative experiences, I’ve come to realise that the key to navigating the next paradigm shift lies in inner transformation. To create the world we aspire to see, we must first cultivate a clear and authentic vision within ourselves. This calls for a new kind of leadership—one that is deeply aligned, purpose-driven, and free from the constraints of ego or outdated power dynamics.
By connecting to our inner core, we gain the discernment to make decisions that are not only rational but deeply aligned with our hearts and values.
In A New Kind of Leadership, we bring together leaders from diverse backgrounds—CXOs, entrepreneurs, coaches, and more—to redefine leadership for this new era.
Leadership today is not about autocracy or manipulative behaviours. It’s about recognising that we cannot tackle these challenges alone. True leadership demands collective wisdom, where we learn together as a community, unlearning old patterns and preparing with resilience for what lies ahead.

What is Socratic Dialogue?
Socratic Dialogue is an inquiry method that encourages deep thinking, reflection, and insight through intentional questioning. Named after the Greek philosopher Socrates, it is a cornerstone of effective leadership development.
This practice helps leaders move beyond surface-level thinking, challenging assumptions and uncovering clarity on complex issues. By engaging in Socratic Dialogue, leaders can explore their beliefs, values, and decision-making processes in a meaningful and structured way.

Five steps for leadership in crisis
So, how do we lead amid this chaos? How do we inspire change when the systems around us are falling apart?
Acknowledge the brokenness
Leadership begins with honesty. Denial only delays action. We must acknowledge the fractures in our systems and confront uncomfortable truths about climate change, inequality, and unchecked corporate power. Only then can we begin to address them.Think beyond borders
The climate crisis knows no national boundaries. Effective leadership must prioritise the global common good over narrow national interests. Collaboration across borders, industries, and ideologies is essential to tackle this shared challenge.Hold power accountable
Denialism and inaction from powerful actors can no longer be tolerated. Bold policies are needed to regulate corporate behaviours, confront fossil fuel interests, and enforce systemic change. Accountability is non-negotiable.Invest in collective resilience
Instead of funnelling resources into private profit, leadership must prioritise investments in regenerative infrastructure and community well-being. Indigenous knowledge and regenerative practices offer valuable insights into building resilience in harmony with the planet.Lead with vision and courage
In times of crisis, people look to leaders for hope and direction. Visionary leaders inspire by showing what’s possible and uniting others around a shared purpose. Courageous decisions can light the path forward, even in the darkest moments.
A call to action
The world is changing faster than ever, and the systems we once relied on are no longer sufficient. But within this crisis lies an extraordinary opportunity: to rebuild and reimagine a world that is more equitable, sustainable, and resilient.
